World Premiere Interview: Calum Winsor: Australia's Own

Please introduce yourself to the readers:
Hi my name is Calum Winsor, I am 26 years old and born and bred in Sydney, Australia. I grew up on the North Shore/Northern districts. Currently I work as a model, fitness model, dancer, actor and other forms of entertainment from TVC’s, to MC’ing and hosting events corporate and social. I am an avid health professional and highly involved in exercise, nutrition and lifestyle. I have always been involved in many sports and forms of training. I previously worked as a personal trainer in gyms, group training and outdoors before finishing my Bachelor of Ex Health Science, which plays a large part of who I am today and my work ethic, routine and motivation in my life today in all forms.
How and when did you first get into performing?
I guess you could say I first got into performing as a child involved in competitive and high level sports. Then, involving myself in dancing from the age of around 15 and also having a goal of wanting to model. it was a gradual development. I found myself modeling life experiences and situations before clothing and brands. It was around the age of 20-21 when I began getting involved in all different kinds of performing to gain different experiences and venture outward. I competed in a natural fitness/body building competition in 2009, which played a large role in enjoying stage performance. I began getting in front of the camera as much as possible and consistently involving myself in as many kinds of performances as I could from modeling, photoshoots, dancing onstage and in shows to hosting events.

Who were some of your biggest inspirations?
Some of my biggest inspirations growing up were Channing Tatum as he has a similar look to myself. I wish to one day be also doing well in front of the camera and on screen. Tyra Banks was a huge role model as she has been a greatly successful top model for an established length of time and also progressing to hosting her own show and creating herself as a popular, lovable skilled TV personality as well as a beautiful successful model. I would love to achieve a level of success in the public eye and be working towards a full and successful skill set in anything I am involved in and strive to achieve.

What kind have training have you done?
Consistently maintaining a regular and intensive exercise regime from 5-7 days a week involving all forms of training with multiple sessions daily, including resistance training (hypertrophy), cross-fit, interval, powerlifting etc. Cardio wise, I regularly cycle long distances weekly on my carbon race road bike and run 3-4 times a week. Dancing, I have involved myself in classes over the years in hip hop, commercial (JFH), jazz weekly and contemporary/lyrical from time to time.

What has been your favorite role to play so far?
I recently have been working for Vodafone as ‘Lightning Fast Man’ here in Sydney and also just shot some online commercials and hopefully TV as well. This role involves wearing a superhero lycra costume and being full of energy and getting everyone involved, aware and loving Vodafone via network tests and setups.

What projects do you have coming up?
I literally have a 10 page editorial spread in DNA magazine at the moment for April 2014 which is out now and released. I have several flash mobs in Sydney which I am a part of in various locations. I have been booked for a feature film, also which is shooting in Sydney playing an ancient soldier and a stand in for a lead actor which is a little bit of fun. Also, I’m hoping to lock into an MC hosting role for Miss Hooters Australia Pageant Competition coming in may. I am also hoping to get some more fitness model infomercials through some new contacts after shooting this week for I-Novo Maxiclimber on the ‘Mornings’ show on channel 9 on Moray 31/mar/2014, airing in april every morning.

Who would be your ideal co-star and why?
I would really love to work alongside Mark Wahlberg, as I really appreciate all the amazing work he has been bringing to the world recently and in the past. I really admire his dedication to his craft! I love how he goes from drama to action to comedy and thriller and all the cross genre skills and versatility he has.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to explore the USA . I have booked a 3 month trip to the US for SEP, OC, NOV and plan on spending 3 weeks in LA dancing and taking classes all day every day to experience the best in the work and better my skills and network. Then, I plan to travel down to Miami for 2 months and live in South Beach, Miami, enjoying the weather, the culture and the lifestyle whilst working on photoshoots, building my portfolio and rendezvousing with Mega Models again. Then hopefully travel to NY for 1-2 weeks before possibly coming home to Sydney for Christmas. Ideally, I would love to be living and working in the USA and furthering my career. Future plans beyond this, involve going back to university to study another degree or two if I can, to verse myself in as much as possible and broaden my skill set academically.

What is your advice to aspiring performers?
Get out there and try everything and anything! You never ever know until you ever give it a go! Find something you like and love it, you will know if you are doing the right thing for yourself just by how it makes you feel and whether you wake up in the morning thinking about it and dreaming about it at night!
