Iman Knew That David Bowie Was 'a Keeper' Two Weeks After They Met

He was the real deal. Years before David Bowie's death, Iman gushed about first meeting the iconic singer — and how she fell for him after just two weeks.

The supermodel, now 60, opened up about the beloved "Space Oddity" singer during an interview with New York magazine's The Cut back in February 2011.

"His actions spoke louder [than words]," she said at the time. "We were dating for two weeks and I was coming from Paris and I got to L.A. at the airport and the doors open to the plane and I come out and I see all these people taking a picture of somebody. And he was standing there, flowers in hand, no security. That was when I knew he was a keeper. He didn’t care if anyone saw."

The couple met shortly after Iman retired from modeling in 1989. They married in 1992 and welcomed daughter Alexandria in August 2000. The pair often looked affectionate at red carpet events, but they never celebrated Valentine's Day in public.

 

We never do Valentine’s dinner, because everybody, they look," Iman explained to The Cut. "On Valentine’s, imagine me and David going to a restaurant! Like everybody’s going to say, 'Did they talk? Did they hold hands?’ Twenty years. We’ve been married twenty years!"

           

Bowie died at the age of 69 on Sunday, January 10. He's also survived by his son Duncan, 44. He had Duncan with his first ex-wife, Angie Bowie. Angie was noticed about his death while on set of Celebrity Big Brother.

"I haven’t seen him in so many years," Angie said in a confessional on the show after hearing the news. "I can’t make a big drama out of it. I just feel like an era has ended with his passing. I’m so very sad."
