Naomi Campbell Closed Jean Paul Gaultier Wearing a Bouquet of Flowers!
Instead
of simply closing with a bridal look, as couturiers are traditionally
wont to do, Jean Paul Gaultier gave his entire spring 2015 couture
collection a wedding theme — and it sounds like this wedding was a fun
one.
Set to a soundtrack of "White Wedding" and
"Back to Black" according to Tweeting attendees, a refreshingly diverse
cast of models of various ages and shapes strutted down the runway in a
mostly black and white assortment of gowns, suits, and cocktail dresses.
Some pieces had very Gaultier twists, like a princess gown with a
bodice resembling denim overalls and jackets covering only one arm.
However, the biggest twist came at the finale, when Naomi Campbell came
out not as the bride — a number of iterations of those had
already walked — but as the bouquet. Literally, she wore a bouquet of
flowers, replete with the cellophane wrapping and a little card that
read "Gaultier Paris." She looked incredible. Sadly, no one tossed her
into the audience to see who would get married next.
This collection was also the first since Gaultier shuttered his ready-to-wear business to
focus on designing couture without constraints. Browse the full
collection below to see how he expressed his new creative freedom.
