Last summer, designer Michael Bastien sparked a talk about the relevance of New York Fashion Week
for men’s designers when he decided not to show as usual. Bastien had
shared, “September for men’s just doesn’t really work. I know everyone
is trying hard to figure this out, but for now July is when we’re still
selling the collection. It made no sense to show in September.
Men’s
buyers are in town for Project [tradeshow]; Michael Kors and Rag & Bone have started doing things in July.” It seems that Bastien and menswear designers will get their wish as the Council of Fashion Designers of America push forward with efforts to secure funding for a New York Men’s Fashion Week, slated to launch in July 2015.
