50 Reasons to Watch Days of Our Lives!

Put on your party hats and break out the bubbly to celebrate Days of our Lives' golden anniversary with Two Scoopers Laurisa and Tony as they take a look at fifty reasons to love life in Salem!

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives." Fans have heard those very words for fifty years, and, we don't know about everyone else, but they never grow old. Whether you're a new viewer or lifelong one, Macdonald Carey's timeless voice is like a warm "welcome home." And it's a shining reminder of why we love life in Salem.

Admittedly, the show ebbs and flows, but one thing remains true -- DAYS has a special place in our hearts despite the ups and downs. It's a magical hour-long escape. It's kept us on the edge of our seats. It's brought us to tears. It's made us laugh and cheer. It's made us root for love. It's brought us on grand adventures as well as captured those small, intimate moments between loved ones. And it's been a frustrating duty from time to time, too. But like sports fans who paint their faces, or tech junkies who wait in line for days for the latest gadget, this is our face paint -- this is our gadget -- and we can't begin to express our joy that we can exclaim, "Happy Fiftieth Anniversary, DAYS!"

We'd also like to take the time to sincerely thank everyone who works hard to bring DAYS alive each and every weekday. From the crafty creators who dreamed up life in Salem, to Ken Corday and the new writers who keep it going, to the producers and directors, to the illuminating stars of our show who shine so tirelessly bright and create more memorable performances in a year than some actors do in a lifetime, to the stylists and the set designers, to the people keep coffee flowing in the break rooms and who sweep up the stage at the end of the day, to sponsors and fellow fans who tune in, to soap champions like
Dan J Kroll who rally fans and bring them together -- to all of them, we thank you.
Our sincere appreciation of fifty years of fabulous can't be measured, but we're in for fifty more and wish the show continued success -- may the sands keep flowing through the hourglass all the days of our lives.

In keeping with tradition, your faithful
DAYS Two Scoopers have compiled our annual anniversary column to give you even more reasons to love life in Salem this year -- though narrowing it down to fifty was hard as we could proudly and endlessly gush about each and every actor on the show (and the show in general)! So, grab some celebratory Champagne in one of those fancy gold-rimmed glasses always floating around Salem and
watch DAYS because...

The man, the myth, the legendary Thaao Penghlis is back as dastardly Andre DiMera! If his chilling performances aren't enough to draw you in, do you really want creeptatsic Andre to haunt your dreams if you don't do his bidding? We thought not.

... fifty years later we still don't know which state Salem's in! You don't want to miss that reveal, or the bragging rights if it's your home state.

... Australia has already given us gifts like Olivia Newton John, Uggs, Hugh Jackman, koalas, Kylie Minogue, Vegemite, and two hunky Hemsworths, and now their lending us swoon-worthy Alexander Bruszt, (
coming soon as Fynn). Be sure to thank our good neighbours in the Southern Hemisphere!

... plucky go-getter Lani is giving something to Abe that he hasn't had in a very, very long time -- a storyline! And we Abe lovers are doing a happy dance about that!

... we know that Kristin is not -- repeat, "NOT" -- really dead, and you'll want to be in Salem to welcome home her special brand of craziness when she triumphantly returns
.

Yesterday's youngsters -- no, literally, yesterday in some cases -- are today's teens, and you're eager to watch them lead the charge of the next generation. Plus, now we don't have to wait to see if Ciara grows up to be more "Hope Junior" or more "Princess Gina."

... Philip and Chloe are both on their way back to Salem, and we want to hear how their happy hours in Chicago have been going and if Philip's run into
Morgan Hollingsworth.

... now that larger, more elaborate sets are back in play, you'll have more places to hide when the sand hits the hourglass. We call dibs on the secret passageways of the DiMera mansion!

...Theresa has 24/7 access to a fireplace poker. You don't want to get on her bad side by tuning out!

... DAYS won more Emmy Awards this year, and by the way things are looking, we'll be adding more to the mantel next year. We're talking about you, Lady DePaiva!

let's be honest here, you want a personalized ornament on the Horton Christmas tree just as much as we do.

... Melissa Reeves and Kassie DePaiva are pure magic as enemies Jennifer and Eve! We also love those moments when Melissa gets to show off her scene-stealing comedic chops. We're still chuckling over Jennifer's exuberance at Hope's bachelorette party!

... to figure out just what those lights are outside of Ben and Abigail's apartment and why they've migrated to Hope's house.

DAYS's new direction, you never know who's going to walk through the door next. And, like us, you're excited to meet all the new faces as well as welcome home many familiar ones. We're totally counting down the days until Martha Madison and Tamara Braun return as Belle and Ava, too! #lovetheseladies
... you never know when we might get a touch of Rory's comedic relief, Zoe's sass, or Maxine's side-eye. All are spectacular.

... despite Jennifer and Abigail not liking his answer about J.J. joining the police force, you know Roman was jazzed that someone finally asked his opinion...on anything!

... Stefano may actually have more surprise kids than the Republicans do presidential candidates. That's impressive!

... we're more than happy to wait patiently if it means that Brady may sing to us
Tate again!

... someone may slip up and reveal the name or gender of Carrie and Austin's baby, who should now be anywhere between toddler and thirty in Salem time.

... seeing teenage-heartthrob-turned-manly-hunk Shawn-Douglas (Jason Cook) again brings us right back to those "Last Blast" days. Save a dance for us, Shawn-D!
... With DAYS's new direction, you never know who's going to walk through the door next. And, like us, you're excited to meet all the new faces as well as welcome home many familiar ones. We're totally counting down the days until Martha Madison and Tamara Braun return as Belle and Ava, too! #lovetheseladies ... you never know when we might get a touch of Rory's comedic relief, Zoe's sass, or Maxine's side-eye. All are spectacular.

John's thirty days are almost up. Will Marlena give him the final rose?

... to see where Lucas wants us to meet him for bungee jumping and waffles.

... John is rocking the role of Paul's loving dad. Our hope for their next chat: appropriate places to hit on other guys. Our other hope: we see Paul more often and get a visit from the tremendous Tori!

... of the cuteness overload that is the way Parker giggles every time Daniel wraps him up in a huge bear hug.
... Aiden may not have turned out to be an upstanding guy, but Daniel Cosgrove delivered the good, the bad, and the ugly. In fact, looking back, Daniel and all his dimpled brilliantness kept us guessing from day one!
And no offense to Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, but cool cats Bo and Steve will always be the original bromance. We love that the boys are back in town!

... as successful as he is in business and leveling anyone with a perfectly snarky one-liner, Victor seems to fail miserably at selecting who gets to live under his roof. It's nice to see he does have a flaw!

... despite some of Adrienne's suspect behavior at times, Salem is just a better place with the glam Judi Evans in it!

... you never know when Caroline will treat us to another Grandpa Shawn sighting. Ghost or not, we love that these two get to share any kind of scene together!

... of the gooey feeling you can't help but get when Abigail goes to Aunt Kayla for her perfect blend of advice and support. Kate Mansi rocks the troubled, torn ingénue role, and Mary Beth Evans is still as captivating (and sweet) as the first time we fell in love with Kayla.
Lauren Koslow is just as fabulous outside of Salem as Kate is in Salem (and that's a lot of fabulousness).

... Gabi has been sprung from the clink, meaning Camila Banus is brightening our screens once again. In fact, she's so radiant, it seems like J.J. wants to bask in the glow (and we're totally on board with that)!

... Andre and Chad's nasty yet hilarious sibling rivalry is pretty epic (as are
Thaao Penghlis and Billy Flynn's Tweets to one another)!

... not to be outdone by the boys,
Jen Lilley and Meredith Scott Lynn's Theresa and Anne are funnier than a fat guy dancing to "Tootsie Roll."

... Doug and Julie will laugh right in the face of anyone who claims supercouples are dead!

Although the sand might be running out of the hourglass for Kassie DePaiva, she has been exceptional as Eve, a diehard defender for DAYS, and an all-around class act. We couldn't love this iconic lovely lady more if we tried!
... the transformation from dim but nice guy with a temper Ollie Bob Bubba Joe Rogers to the multilayered murderous Ben Weston is sure to snag the über-talented Robert Scott Wilson some Emmy attention. Just thinking about this guy's performances lately gives us chills!

... Arianne Zucker can make us laugh one minute and cry the next, which is why it's always hard to stay mad at Nicole.

... the graceful Suzanne Rogers makes us believe that optimism and one of Maggie's hugs can make everything better. Plus, one of these days, Maggie's just got to take us back to Chez Rouge!
... whether she's just visiting Salem or cheering from the sidelines, Alison Sweeney is still DAYS' golden girl and it's biggest champion ever. Viva la Team Sweeney!
..like Bo since 1983, we've continued to fall more in love with Hope each year thanks to the magnificent performances of the luminous and classy Kristian Alfonso.

... DAYS has the talented, charismatic Billy Flynn, and no other show can claim that!

... with his booming voice and commanding presence, Joseph Mascolo has made Stefano one of the most iconic villains in daytime history!

... Deidra Hall has been our leading lady since 1976, and that's rather brilliant. Marlena's journey from young professional to respected expert and matriarch has been seamless and graceful thanks to Deidra. Oh, and lady is funny, too! Who wins? DAYS fans! That's who.

This is the house that Tom and Alice built, and we've all been welcomed in it for fifty years (and counting). True, the town and its residents have surely changed over the years, but we believe Tom and Alice would be happy about one thing -- the lives and loves of Salem keeps bringing all of us together each weekday. And you know how much they love togetherness and traditions!

That's our list, but we want to hear the reasons you keep coming back to Salem!
Also be sure to raise one more glass of the good stuff to the amazing cast and crew of DAYS!

  • An only child, Wilson's mother has always reminded him of that fact. "I actually got tattooed on my back, in my mother's handwriting, the words, 'The only son,'" shares the actor.
  • He once played professional paint ball with guns. "I used to travel and play everywhere," says Wilson. "It's still one of my favorite hobbies."
  • Wilson cites Mark Wahlberg as one of his favorite actors. "What he's done with his career is absolutely amazing," notes Wilson. "And he's a Boston guy. To hear the way he speaks about his life, his family and sports hits home for me."
    • Madden football on Xbox is one of his favorite video games.
    • He was the first male model on The Price Is Right.
    Biography:
Growing up in Grafton, Massachusetts, Robert Scott Wilson never dreamed about being an actor. "When I was a little kid, I wanted to be a football player or a pro wrestler," he admits. "Acting is just something that fell into my lap."
Upon graduating from Grafton Memorial High School in 2006, Wilson moved to New York City before eventually heading home.
  • "When I got back to Boston, there was a lot of filming going on around town," recounts Wilson. "I met with agents about modeling, and they told me about this open call for a couple of films. I ended up booking a part in each of them."
The most memorable? A part in Bride Wars. "I ended up having a scene with Anne Hathaway," notes Wilson. "It was my first scene ever and it was on a boat. I ended up falling in love, not just with Anne Hathaway, but with the whole dynamic of acting -- just being in the moment and experiencing that was so fun. From that point on, I started to learn the process and going to acting classes."
  • In 2010, Wilson relocated to Los Angeles. He ended up modeling for Ford and was featured in numerous print advertising campaigns and music videos.
In 2012, Wilson found himself thrust into the competition for the first-ever male model search for The Price Is Right and won. He ended up being part of the game show's Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes, before being asked to stay on. "The female models were so good to me," he recounts. "They welcomed me with open arms and taught me the ropes."
  • Wilson broke into the daytime world in 2013, when he joined the online reboot of All My Children. He was cast as tech wiz Pete Cortlandt, the youngest son of Opal and Palmer Cortlandt. Unfortunately, the show quickly folded.
The soap opera world came calling again, when Wilson was summoned to audition for Days of Our Lives, after the show decided to recast the role of Ben Rogers in December 2013. Wilson, who was booked on a flight home for the holidays that he'd already changed once, had a dilemma.
  • "Without a doubt I wanted to audition, because I wanted to be a part of the show," he says. "I felt like my experience at All My Children got cut short, and I really wanted to finish my education in soaps. It turned out, [the producers] said I could make an audition tape while I was back home in Boston with my family. I was all set to do that, when they called and offered me the role. I jumped up and down and thanked God."
  • Wilson's been enjoying portraying that troubled man, Abigail Deveraux's hot headed boyfriend, ever since. "I really like the character," he shares. "I'm really excited to show the audience where he's going."
The single actor lives in Los Angeles. In his spare time he enjoys playing paintball and "listening to all types of music -- it's what drives me," notes Wilson.

Y&R goes Big on the Halloween Inferno

Gouls, goblins and witches are embraced by those within modern society who don't take themselves too seriously. Yes, Halloween ushers in the superfecta of traditional holidays celebrated in the United States of America. The lead event within the intentional mix of religious and secular moments often evokes harmless fun, unlike the  party at the Top of the Tower that sets the stage for an inferno on 'The Young and the Restless'.
The Top of the Tower is the restaurant located that the top of 'Victor's' (Eric Braeden) corporate palace Newman Enterprises. 'Billy' (Burgess Jenkins), 'Victoria' (Amelia Heinle), 'Chelsea' (Melissa Claire Egan), 'Jack' (Peter Bergman) and 'Phyllis' (Gina Tognoni) are all seen in the latest visual teaser offered by YR.
Obviously the headline of this digital piece and the foreshadowed fictional story means that a fire is about to wreak havoc on CBS' top steamer.
Many Genoa City players will offer an ode to Irwin Allen's 1974 disaster film 'The Towering Inferno', that starred Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, William Holden, Faye Dunaway, Fred Astaire and countless other old school stars, at the end of this month. Fret not detractors, re-imagining classic scenes is as old as time. So, the daytime remake of this epic flick is totally fine.

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Halloween party sparks towering inferno

It’s time for another disaster story from head writer Chuck Pratt Jr. and The Young and the Restless!  This time the backdrop is Halloween and fright night is about to put the scare in many lives in Genoa City!  It all unravels at the newly reopened restaurant Top of the Tower at Newman Enterprises.  The danger begins when a mysterious person sets fire to the place!  But who could it be?
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) and Phyllis Abbott (Gina Tognoni) are hosting the Halloween party festivities when all hell breaks loose.  As the building fries to a crisp – Victor  (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman) have to work together to save themselves and their loved ones, and Ashley (Eileen Davidson) is put in peril with Stitch (Sean Carrigan), as Adam  (Justin Hartley) risks it all as lives hangs in the balance.

DAYS officially passes GH in the ratings!

DAYS OF OUR LIVES officially trumps GH in ratings; becomes third most watched soap, bumping GH into last place!
Days of our Lives is sliding into quite a nice place for its 50th anniversary, knocking GH down a notch and officially taking the place as the third most watched daytime drama on the air.
Congratulations are in order for Days of our Lives, which managed to garner an audience large enough to bump it up into the slot of third most watched daily drama out of the four remaining soap operas on the air. The move knocked General Hospital into fourth place, meaning the ABC soap is now the least watched daily drama in the group.

DAYS, which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in two weeks, pulled in a total of 2,647,000 viewers for the week of October 12 through the 16, beating GH by a mere 1,000 audience members. The storyline that managed to bump it into third place (for the first time since 2013) included the return of both Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis), who came back to Salem following the news that legacy character Will Horton (Guy Wilson) had been murdered.

The nearly 50-year-old soap was up 172,000 viewers, making it the soap that boasts the most added viewers for that week. The NBC series also bested GH in the key 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, as well.

Days of Our Lives ratings continue to climb as the show remains poised to possibly take the number 3 spot out of 4 soaps due to the continued decline in General Hospital’s ratings.

While DAYS is still in last place among the four daytime soaps left on broadcast television, its numbers have been steadily rising, putting a hush to some of those rumors that NBC may get out of the soap biz altogether by cancelling the show. Last week, DAYS’ overall viewership was up by 29,000, with a total number of 2,382,000 viewers. Meanwhile, GH viewers were down by 121,000 from a week ago with a total audience number of 2,539,000.
In the coveted 18-49 female demographic, DAYS already has the number 3 spot, as GH is at its all-time low for women 18-49 with only 418,000 viewers.

Anticipation of the show’s 50th anniversary celebration this fall could be what’s driving up DAYS ratings, as characters and stories that haven’t worked are moving on out, vets have been put on contract, and even more cast vets are coming for a visit or to stay in the next few months. As its second century on the air is about to start, it looks like DAYS has more to celebrate than a birthday.

4 Things to know Balenciaga's New Director!

4 Things To Know About Balenciaga’s New Artistic Director, Demna Gvasalia

It was been widely speculated that Balenciaga’s parent company Kering would encourage the legendary fashion house to turn to a relatively unknown designer to take the helm of the label.
Enter 34-year-old Vetements designer Demna Gvasalia. Here’s what you should know about Gvasalia ahead of his big arrival at the brand.
1. He works as a creative director at Vetements, which has within the past few seasons made a name for itself as one of the most exciting brands at Paris Fashion Week for its innovative street wear collections (Kanye and Kim are big fans). The label, founded just a few seasons ago by seven anonymous designers, was a finalist for the LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize.

2. Gvasalia graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in Belgium, which also trained Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Peter Pilotto and Haider Ackermann.

3. Gvasalia worked as a designer at Maison Margiela — after the departure of founder Martin Margiela — from 2009 to 2013 on the women’s collection team. After that he was named senior designer of women’s ready-to-wear collections at Louis Vuitton.

4. Though there aren’t many designers of Georgian descent (David Koma is perhaps best known), Gvasalia hails from the small European nation.

Who Is Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s New Designer?

The name Demna Gvasalia was whispered along the front row of every major show during Paris Fashion Week. With Balenciaga naming him artistic director on Wednesday morning, here is what you need to know about the relative unknown who is taking on one of the most high-profile jobs in the industry.

Background?

The 34-year-old Georgian trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in Belgium (alma mater of the likes of Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester) before leading design teams at Maison Martin Margiela and Louis Vuitton. Mr. Gvasalia was recently the primary designer behind Vetements, one of the coolest and most hyped labels to emerge in Paris in recent seasons. Its spring show on Thursday took place on the upper floor of a gaudy Chinese restaurant, and it attracted attention from style-set movers and shakers as well as celebrities, including Kanye West. Vetements was a finalist for the LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize this year.

What is Vetements?

Now starting work on its fifth season, the label was founded as a creative collective by seven designers who initially remained anonymous because of contractual commitments elsewhere. They called the brand Vetements, the French word for clothes, because they wanted customers to look beyond the branding that pervades the fashion industry. Mr. Gvasalia only stepped out of the shadows, taking his place at the creative helm, late last year, although a strong collaborative ethos continues to pervade the studio. Guram Gvasalia, his brother, now handles the commercial side of the business.

What is the label about?

Vetements has made its name through deconstructionist designs centered around reimagined urban streetwear. The proportions are often oversize, and there are quirky twists and unconventional materials that subvert expectations.
The latest spring collection included black oversize sweaters with versatile, flippable hoods that could be worn back to front or front to back, tracksuit bottoms with tongue-in-cheek Vetements insignia, and skirts and hoodies with the work of graffiti artists from the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris transposed onto the clothes.
Sock bootees were molded to look like toes, while floral-printed tea dresses and evening slips with cutaway backs were made in cheap velour with what Demna Gvasalia called a “Juicy Couture” finish.
“I wanted to take an expensive silhouette and deliberately subvert the purpose of the garment by using a tacky material,” Mr. Gvasalia said. “It gives it a different energy.”
That energy he seeks to encapsulate emanates from the grungy cool kids of Paris, some of whom walked on the runway in his Friday show. Models were scouted almost entirely from Instagram and Facebook, and they stormed down the runway at lightning speed.
“I wanted there to be energy and authenticity,” he said. “If people were interested in the clothes, then they would return to take a closer look.”

What happens now?

Mr. Gvasalia is the only member of Vetements making the jump to Balenciaga, and despite his new duties, the designer was at pains to emphasize during follow-up appointments at his 10th arrondissement studio that he would have a continuing association with the Vetements brand.

“I’ve already started working on next season for Vetements,” he said. “This is a label and a project that I am committed to for a lifetime.”
