Dirty Sexy Money’ is a drama series that centers around the high-profile lives of socialites in New York City. Created by Craig Wright, it premiered on ABC on September 26, 2007, and follows a good family guy plus lawyer, Nick George who takes up the position of the Darlings’ legal advisor after the mysterious death of his father.

The series revolves around lawyer and family man Nick George, portrayed by Peter Krause. When Nick's father mysteriously dies in a plane crash, he agrees to take his position as the Darling family's lawyer, while trying to discover who committed the murder. The Darlings, the richest family in New York, constantly rely on Nick to solve their problems. Nick struggles to balance his morals and family life while dealing with the demands of the Darlings.
Nick continues to work for the Darlings while attempting to unearth the mystery behind his dad’s murder. On the other hand, the Darlings, who are the richest clan in NYC, continually seeks Nick’s help in solving their problems. Meanwhile, Nick has to constantly battle between his values and the demands of his job. Of course, the elite and powerful Darlings — led by the patriarch Tripp Darling — are extremely influential and have several secrets to hide. After all, money is not everything!
‘Dirty Sexy Money’, upon its release, opened to 10.44 million viewers and a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demography. With a 69% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, its Critics Consensus reads as: “Dirty Sexy Money is forthrightly campy and soporific, delivering a steady stream of sly zingers, but also a discouraging lack of heart.”
So comparatively, we can say that the show managed to hover amidst mediocre numbers and hence, ABC decided to renew it for a second season. Now the question is, will there be a ‘Dirty Sexy Money’ season 3? Let’s find out.
‘Dirty Sexy Money’ season 2 premiered on October 1, 2008, on ABC. After airing for 13 episodes, it wrapped up on August 8, 2009.
However, the broadcast history of the series was fraught with disruptions. Initially, ABC had commissioned a full 22-episode season 1 for the show. But because of the WGA writers’ strike, which started on November 5, 2007, the first season concluded after only 10 episodes.
Although the first episode opened to okay-ish ratings and the numbers began to drop considerably with each subsequent episode, ABC decided to take the plunge and renewed the show for a second season, which was released 10 months after the first season finale. Even then, with the launch of the second part, things did not get better for the series.
Noting the upcoming and apparent demise of ‘Dirty Sexy Money’, star William Baldwin requested fans to help save the show after ABC pulled the plug on ‘Eli Stone’ and ‘Pushing Daisies’. He expressed his disappointment that since ABC had declined to order more episodes of the series, it might get cancelled.
Baldwin stated, “Our show is in trouble and if you’re a fan of the show I really encourage you to watch the next couple of weeks and I would say go to ABC.com and click on Dirty Sexy Money. There’s a place where you can send an email to the executives at ABC if you want. Not boycott and protest, but if you want to support the show and demonstrate your love, I encourage people to do that.”
Hence, it’s confirmed. ‘Dirty Sexy Money’ season 3 stands officially cancelled. The news did come as a disappointment to fans since certain storylines remained to be completed. For instance, the makers did not solve the mystery, surrounding the death of Dutch George. Creator Craig Wright responded to these questions explaining that if the story would have continued, Juliet would end up getting arrested and then go on to teach drama at a boarding school in Connecticut. She would also have had a family after getting married to the school’s soccer coach.
Well, we know that these clarifications are not enough to bring closure. But now we have to be content with that as ABC really has no further plans of taking up this drama. In the near future, we might see a reboot or a spinoff; but until then, we have to live with what we have got!
