1. Wear sunscreen
One of the leading causes of wrinkles is sun damage. When your skin is over exposed to the ultraviolet rays of the sun, your skin ages prematurely. To achieve wrinkle-free male model skin, wear sunscreen every day. To ensure ultimate protection from the sun’s harsh rays, look out for SPF 30 or higher. Even better a moisturiser with SPF, and your skin will be hydrated and protected.

2. Put frozen spoons under your eyes
This sounds kind of crazy – but it works! Put a teaspoon in your freezer overnight, and in the morning place it under your eyes. You will look instantly more awake, and your under-eye bags will disappear like magic. No matter how badly you slept the night before, you will be able to walk out of your house looking like a male model.
Each day, men should drink at least 10 cups of water. When you drink water, toxins are flushed out of your body. This results in glowing, male model skin. Hydration is an easy way to care for your body – just up your water intake for plump, photo shoot ready skin.
4. Moisturize
Moisturizing your skin is essential to reduce inflammation. When you apply moisturizer, you strengthen the top layer of your skin which is a barrier against toxins entering your skin and body. It’s an important part of any male model’s skin care routine and should be a part of yours too. Look for a moisturizer packed with antioxidants to help prevent ageing.
5. Sleep
Getting beauty sleep is not just for women! Male models swear by 8 hours of sleep a night for glowing skin. During sleep, your body repairs your skin, produces collagen which prevents wrinkles and increases blood flow to your face, creating a healthy glow. A lack of sleep can cause dark circles under your eyes – to prevent this and ensure you have male model skin when you wake up, make sure you get your sleep!
6. Cleanse
Cleansing is the most important step in skin care, and every male model knows this. Cleansing is a deep cleaning of your skin. When you cleanse your skin, you remove the toxins, dirt, sweat, and bacteria your skin has picked up or created during the day. By cleansing your skin, you can prevent acne, effectively wash your face, and remove dead cells that build up on the surface of your skin. Look out for cleansers which are made with salicylic acid, glycolic acid or benzoyl peroxide to give your skin the ultimate deep cleanse.
7. Use a chemical exfoliant
Although physical exfoliants, such as scrubs with sugar, microbeads, or walnut shells, are immediately effective – they don’t penetrate deep into your skin. For male model skin, use a chemical exfoliant with AHAs such as glycolic acid and lactic acid, or BHAs, such as salicylic acid. Chemical exfoliants are effective, as they help prevent and reduce acne, boost collagen and elastin production and improve discoloration and age spots.
8. Don’t use soap on your face
You may think it makes sense to wash your face with the soap you use on your body –but do not do this! The soap you use to clean your body can mess up the pH of the skin on your face. This can cause dehydration, inflammation and even lead to acne. Use a dedicated facial cleanser to wash your face. The skin on your face is much more delicate than the skin on the rest of your body, so you have to be gentle with it. Keep your body soap away from your face!
9. Use sheet masks
For a quick skin transformation, use a sheet mask. Sheet masks are drenched in hydrating, anti-ageing serums which permeate deep into your skin. Wear them for just 10-15 minutes, and your skin will be instantly brighter. Apply it just before you know you are going to have your photo taken – you will have male model skin in minutes!
10. Massage your face
Use soft, circular motions to massage tension out of your face. When you massage your face daily you increase facial circulation, resulting in a healthy glow. When you massage your face before you apply skin care products, the products absorb easily into the skin. Facial massage is a simple way you can achieve male model skin for free.
11. Use clay masks
Amazing skin is free of toxins. To achieve this yourself, apply a clay mask for 10-15 minutes. During this time, the clay mask pulls out toxins, dirt and bacteria from your pores. This process purifies and exfoliates your skin. Don’t leave the clay mask on for longer than 15 minutes, as this can dry out the skin. Look out for a clay mask with kaolin, sea mud, or charcoal to gain male model skin.
12. Exercise
Male models exercise to stay in shape, but did you know that exercise is also great for your skin? Regular exercise boosts healthy circulation, making your skin glowy and vibrant. By sticking to a regular exercise regime, you can reap the benefits too! Just make sure you cleanse your skin after working out to ensure that any toxins expelled through your skin are washed away and don’t stay in your skin.
13. Scrub your lips
If a male model arrived on a photoshoot with dry, flaky lips it just wouldn’t fly. To prevent this, use a sugar scrub on your lips. You can easily make one yourself at home; just combine brown sugar and coconut oil, scrub your lips, and then wipe off the excess. Any dry skin on the surface of your lips will be scrubbed off, leaving you with photo shoot ready lips.
14. Get a facial from a professional
Sometimes nothing can beat a facial from a professional. Skin care professionals have seen it all before and can tailor the facial specifically for your skin type. They can also provide you with personalised tips for your skin. Look for an aesthetician in your area who specializes in male skin. Male skin is different to the skin of women, therefore it is important that the person giving you your facial understands your skin as a man.
15. Take vitamins
Vitamins are essential for optimal skin health. Many male models swear by vitamins for their skin. The vitamins you need to be taking for your skin are: Vitamin C which prevents ageing, Vitamin E which protects against sun damage and prevents dark spots, Vitamin K which prevents dark circles under your eyes, Vitamin A which promotes healthy skin cell production and Vitamin D which boosts elasticity and collagen production. Look for a multi-vitamin which contains all of these essential vitamins in one capsule, to save time.
When you steam your face, your pores open up. This allows any dirt, bacteria or toxins to be easily removed with a cleanser or chemical exfoliant. This subsequently helps to prevent acne, as the nasty acne-causing bacteria and toxins are removed from your skin. Male model skin is known for being clear of acne. To achieve a facial steam at home; use a facial steamer, take a hot shower or bath, or simply place your face over a bowl of hot water, covering your face and neck with a towel to ensure that the steam reaches your face. Cleanse and exfoliate your skin after this.
17. Avoid dairy
Dairy-free diets are known to clear up acne. If you want male model skin, avoid products such as milk, cheese, ice cream and yoghurt which contain dairy. Opt for a glass of water over a glass of milk, and in time you will see just how much your skin will thank you for it.
You may assume that using an oil on your face would make your skin oily, or even cause acne. However, this is not the case! Face oils are a great way to hydrate and moisturise your skin. They are easily soaked up by your skin and are often packed full of antioxidants which prevent ageing. Face oils can also reduce inflammation, prevent acne, brighten your skin and reduce acne scarring and dark spots. Simply apply your face oil before bed, allowing it to soak in and work its magic overnight, and wake up with nourished male model skin.
19. Avoid sugar
A diet high in sugar can lead to inflammation and break outs. For male model skin, avoid foods which are high in processed sugar. Opt instead for fruit and vegetables that are anti-inflammatory, and packed full of antioxidants.
20. Meditate
Although stress is inevitable in our fast paced modern lives, it can wreak havoc on your skin. Stress can cause break outs, it can impact your sleep and cause inflammation. Meditation is a great way to destress and reset. Allocate 15-30 minutes each day to meditation, and it will be more than just your mind that thanks you for it.
21. Quit smoking
There are numerous reasons to quit smoking – but did you know that quitting smoking can help you achieve great skin? Cigarettes contain chemicals which reduce the blood flow to your face and drain your body of vitamins and minerals, discolouring and drying out your skin. Smoking also makes your skin age faster, causing sagging and premature wrinkles.
22. Eat fruit and vegetables
A diet rich in fruit and vegetables leads to vibrant male model skin. Introducing more fruit and vegetables into your diet is an easy way to boost your intake of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are amazing for your skin.
23. Use tinted moisturiser
Although you may think that tinted moisturisers are only for women – men can use them too! Tinted moisturisers dually hydrate your skin and even out your skin tone. Male models use tinted moisturisers all the time, there’s no reason you can’t too. Look for a tinted moisturiser with SPF 30 or higher, to ensure your skin is protected throughout the day.
For far too long women have been the only ones reaping the benefits of the miracle that is concealer. Concealer is a high coverage product that matches your skin tone, which can conceal blemishes and dark under eye circles. Apply the product gradually, building up to the coverage you want. If you make sure you choose a shade of concealer that is a perfect match to your skin tone, no one will know that you are wearing it. Concealer is a subtle way to hide any imperfection on your face – and you may not know it, but in photos, male models are almost always wearing concealer.
25. Don’t touch your face
Throughout the day, your hands pick up bacteria and dirt. If you touch your face without washing this bacteria off your hands, you are introducing it to your face. This can increase the likelihood that your skin will break out. In order to prevent this, avoid touching your face if you have not washed your hands first.
26. Cut back on alcohol
Alcohol dehydrates the skin and causes inflammation. Before a shoot, male models know to avoid alcohol to ensure their skin is picture perfect. If you do drink alcohol, make sure you rehydrate, so your skin is not depleted of its nutrients and elasticity.
27. Use lip balm
Lips are the only part of the body which is not moisturised naturally by your body. That means that your lips are more likely to become dry or chapped. To prevent lip chapping, apply lip balm to your lips. Look for a non-tinted lip balm with nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, beeswax, vitamin E and lanolin.
28. Eat foods high in healthy fats
Healthy fats such as omega-3 and biotin are important for healthy male model skin. Omega-3 makes your skin look plump, reduces inflammation and prevents acne scarring. Foods high in omega-3 include salmon, mackerel, dark leafy vegetables, flaxseed, walnuts and herring. Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7, helps maintain skin health. It is found in eggs, salmon, avocado, and cheese.
For male model skin, use an eye cream underneath your eyes. The skin underneath your eyes is very fragile, therefore it is important to use a cream which is targeted for use around eyes. Eye cream can reduce dark under eye circles and prevent ageing. Look for an eye cream with antioxidants for added anti-ageing properties.
30. Don’t squeeze pimples
Although it may be tricky not to – you should never squeeze your pimples! When you do this, you increase the chance of scarring, increase inflammation and leave yourself open to getting an infection. A popped pimple is essentially an open wound on your face – you need to be careful with what could get in there and end up in your blood stream. If you must pop your pimple, wash your hands first. Then, using a tissue, squeeze the pimple after you have had a shower and your pores are open. However, keep in mind that for male model skin you should just leave it alone.
31. Eat dark chocolate
Who would have thought that eating chocolate could help you get male model skin? Dark chocolate made from 70% cocoa contains flavonoids. Flavonoids are antioxidants which help prevent ageing, sun damage and promote a healthy glow. Add dark chocolate to your diet to reap the benefits.
32. Put cucumber slices over your eyes
This is the oldest skin trick in the book! People have been putting cucumber slices on their eyes for decades. Cucumber is hydrating for the skin around eyes, and it reduces puffiness and inflammation. Place the cucumber slices in the fridge for 30 minutes before applying them. The cooling effect of the cucumber will be enhanced, creating luminous skin under your eyes.
33. Put Tea Tree Oil on pimples
This may sound less like a male model skin tip and more like something your grandma would tell you – but science backs this up! Tea tree oil is effective at drying out pimples, but it is also a natural antibiotic. This means that not only does tea tree oil clear up your pimples – it prevents infection. If you’re looking for an easy and natural way to get rid of a pimple, apply some tea tree oil on your spot, and it will clear right up.
34. Sleep on your back
By changing your sleep position, you can improve your skin. If you sleep face-down, you are applying pressure on your face. This increases the likelihood of premature wrinkling. When you sleep on your side, lines can appear on the side of your face. The best sleep position for male model skin, is sleeping on your back. When you sleep on your back, you prevent premature wrinkles.
Reducing the levels of iodine in your diet has been known to clear acne and generate male model skin. High levels of iodine in your diet can cause inflammation and acne. Foods which are rich in iodine include cranberries, strawberries, yoghurt, milk and potatoes.
36. Drink green tea
Green tea is a miracle drink for your skin. It is not only rich in antioxidants that fight ageing, but it also balances the hormones in your body which are linked to acne. For male model skin, try and drink a cup of green tea a day.
37. Use a face peel
Using a face peel may sound scary and out of your depth – but it is an effective way to get rid of dead skin, even out skin pigmentation and smooth out the texture of your skin. Apply a face peel which contains AHAs or BHAs. AHAs and BHAs are acids that deeply exfoliate your skin. The face peel removes the outer layer of skin. This allows a new, vibrant layer of skin to be revealed. Make sure you use a light chemical peel, as medium or deep chemical peels can require healing time.
38. Drink lemon water
Drinking water with lemon juice detoxifies your body. Lemons are also a great source of Vitamin C, which helps prevent ageing. Drink a glass of water with the juice of half a lemon in the morning to start your day with glowing male model skin.
39. Eat an anti-inflammatory diet
Inflammation is one of the factors which can cause redness in the skin and premature wrinkling. For male model skin, start an anti-inflammatory diet. Foods that prevent inflammation include: tomatoes, olive oil, dark leafy greens, almonds, salmon, mackerel and oranges.
40. Know your skin type
Male model skin always looks flawless on camera, because male models know their skin type and tailor their skin care routine accordingly. It’s easy for you to do the same, you just need to work out what your skin type is. There are 4 main types of skin: normal, dry, oily and combination. You have a normal skin type if your skin is balanced – not too oily, and not too dry. Dry skin types have tight, rdull looking skin that may flake or feel rough to the touch. You have an oily skin type if your pores are visible and your skin appears shiny or glossy. Combination skin types are a mix of these skin types, with different parts of the face often appearing as different skin types.
