Pyjama Party:Underwear as outerwear done right!

Underwear as outerwear is as much part of the Dolce&Gabbana DNA as Sicily. Pioneers in the emancipation of underwear, from corsetry to men’s tank tops, Dolce&Gabbana in the Nineties brought our intimates out on the streets making an unforgettable statement and changing the way underwear is perceived.
It is therefore no surprise that a strong trend like pyjamas from the Summer 2016 runways is actually Dolce&Gabbana’s bread and butter. The silk pyjama look made a stylish and understated statement on the Summer 2016 runway amidst a plethora of brightly coloured dresses and caftans inspired by Italian souvenirs and sixties tourism.
The pyjama look comes into its own in a special capsule collection aptly named Pyjama Party. Here, a selection of beautiful silk pyjamas in block colours, floral prints, leopard print as well as foulard prints on satin and silk charmeuse complete the runway pyjama looks. The colour palette varies from delicate ivory and gold to bolder indigo, pink and green. The prints create colourful contrasts and further underscore the fashion statement.
The manufacture of these pyjamas recalls that of men’s tailoring of yesteryear, when exquisite homewear and loungewear were crafted for gentleman with fine materials, mother of pearl buttons, soft collars, piping and that general feel of unabashed luxury. The men’s inspiration behind these feminine looks once again attests to Dolce&Gabbana’s talent for masculine / feminine dressing, turning preconceptions on their heads and imbuing the collections with gilded and luxurious irony.
