Fun Facts About Y&R 's Joshua Morrow

When Joshua Morrow took over the role of Nicholas Newman on The Young & the Restless he was the teenaged son of supercouple Victor (Eric Braeden) and Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) -- and as he grew into adulthood Nick became part of a long-running soap supercouple himself, falling in love with Sharon Collins (portrayed by Sharon Case). Now, he's married to Sage (Kelly Sullivan), a recent addition to Genoa City.

Like his TV alter ego, Morrow is a devoted family man, and here are some fun facts about Morrow’s real life outside of Genoa City:
1.     Joshua Jacob Morrow was born on February 8, 1974 (astrological sign is Aquarius).
2.     Morrow was born in Juneau Alaska, where his father was stationed in the Coast Guard. A few years later, his parents divorced, and he moved to Oklahoma with his father and sister, spending much of his childhood there.
3.     As a teen, Morrow moved to Southern California to live with his mother and stepfather.
4.     In junior high and high school Morrow was a star athlete, playing football, basketball, baseball, soccer, track and tennis. (How did he make time for schoolwork?)

5.     While trying to make it as a young actor, Morrow did some modeling and was featured in print ads for Nike.
6.     On August 4, 2001, Morrow married Tobe Keeney, who was an elementary school teacher.

7.     Tobe’s skills at keeping groups of kids in line has surely have surely come in very handy at home: the Morrows have 4 children, 3 boys and a girl.
8.     All 4 Morrow children have first names starting with the letter C: Cooper (born 9/27/2002), Crew (born 5/17/2005), Cash (born 4/21/2008) and daughter Charlie Jo (born 10/30/2012).
9.     Before Charlie was born, the family referred to her as “Princess Pickle” -- a nickname that stuck with Morrow’s Twitter announcement of her birth.
10.  Joshua Morrow describes himself on Twitter (@JoshuaMorrowYR) as a “Little League Coach, Failed Professional Athlete, and Nick Newman on The Young And The Restless”.
11.  Nicholas Newman was born on Y&R in 1988 and played by several child actors for 6 years … then SORAS’ed (stands for Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) into teen Nicholas when Morrow joined the cast.

12.   Prior to winning the role of Nicholas, Morrow auditioned to play the part of Dylan Shaw on The Bold & The Beautiful (he was one of the final two candidates, but he lost that job to Dylan Neal). When Y&R was looking for a new Nick Newman, Morrow was called back to read for the part.
13.   When he got the job on Y&R, Morrow was working at a restaurant and still living at home with his mom.
14.   Morrow’s first Y&R scenes as Nick Newman, who had just returned home from boarding school, were with Nick’s sister Victoria (then played by Heather Tom).
15.   For his work on Y&R, Morrow was nominated for 5 consecutive Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series category (1997-2000).
16.   He doesn’t like to know his upcoming storyline too far in advance, telling TV Guide magazine that “knowing too much too soon can color your performance in a not good way. I just don’t want to know until I need to know. And then you just roll with it.”
17.  In 2002, Morrow signed a 5-year renewal contract with Y&R – the first soap contract for that long a period of time (before that, the longest contract had been for four years).
18.   Morrow was slated to be a contestant on the 2008 celebrity competition series Secret Talents of the Stars, but the show was canceled after just one episode, so viewers never got to see him as an “extreme juggler.”
19.  In June 2014, Morrow celebrated his 20th anniversary with Y&R.
20.  A lifelong Star Wars fan, Morrow’s favorite character in the classic film franchise is Han Solo.
21.  In the late 1990s, Morrow was a vocalist in the musical group 3Deep, performing with ex-Y&R castmate Eddie Cibrian (ex-Matt Clark) and musician CJ Huyer.
22.  Morrow is a founding committee member of TV Cares, the charitable fundraising arm of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
23.   Always a sports enthusiast, Morrow has played on celebrity basketball and softball teams to raise money for charity.
24.   CBS Daytime Senior VP Angelica McDaniel nominated Morrow for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge --- after being doused with the cold stuff by son Crew, Morrow then nominated Y&R Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps, Sony Pictures Television exec Steve Kent and B&B executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell.
25.   In 2004, Morrow co-starred in the independent film Tentacle 8, a straight-to-DVD espionage thriller.
