A Big Milestone!
Great news for The Young and the Restless Fans fans.
The soap sure has staying power, as evidenced by the fact that it can
boast–count ’em–1500 back-to-back weeks as the winner in the daytime
ratings race. That figures to about 29 years as a ratings winner!
How Far It Has Come!
Y&R first hit the airwaves on March 26th, 1973,
originally in half hour installments. The show upped to an hour in
1980. It of course is introduced by the very recognizable musical piece,
“Nadia’s Theme.” Characters come and go; however, but the mainstays on
the show became iconic: Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) and nemesis Katherine
Chancellor (the late, great Jeanne Cooper), Victor Newman (Eric
Braeden)–and we’re sure you dear readers out there have some of your fave classics, too!
The show has also garnered nine Daytime Emmys in the
Outstanding Drama category. And then there are the numerous Emmys won in
other categories by the sudser. Quite the list of achievements and a
consistently impressive showing for this still-standing soap!
