The
fashion world is one of many groups that has resisted the Trump
administration-some designers refused to dress the First Lady, models,
editors and designers attended the Women's March and #NoBanNoWall
protests and many in the industry continue to get political on social
media. Last night, the resistance made its way to the runway at men's
fashion week.
New York-based brand by Robert James made a political statement at its Fall 2017 show as models held picket
signs and dressed like protesters in layered camo jackets, neutral
scarves, backpacks and beanies.
Signs
were emblazoned with messages like "Not My Govt," "#Resist," "#Control"
and "My Name is America," while others read "No Nukes" and "Fight
Fascism." A handful of posters had familiar slogans from recent protests
on the defunding of Planned Parenthood, the Muslim ban and the
president's plans to build a wall between the US and Mexico.
"Planned Parenthood Saves Lives," looked like something we saw at the Women's March last week. A "Bridges Not Walls" sign called out Trump's plans to "bring back our borders."One sign even poked fun at Kellyanne Conway's "alternative facts" phrase. In the wake of the Muslim ban, perhaps the most relevant sign was one
that read "Refugees Welcome," in response to the executive order the
president signed on Friday.
