Are the icy relations between the fashion world and Melania Trump finally thawing?
On New Year's Eve, the soon-to-be first lady wore a black Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress at the Trump's Mar-a-Lago party in Palm Beach, Fla.
In an Instagram post, D&G co-founder Stefano Gabbana celebrated Melania's look, calling her a "DG Woman."

"Melania Trump #DGwoman thank you #madeinitaly" he wrote in the caption.
Controversy broke out in the comment section, with Gabbana responding to critics with messages in English and Italian. "I like Melania she's a beautiful woman," he wrote, saying he "[doesn't] care" about the backlash and calling critics "ignorant."
"If a woman buys a dress in our shop I should throw it out?" he wrote in Italian. "Are you crazy?"
In one exchange, Gabbana refused to compare Melania Trump to Adolf Hitler's companion, Eva Braun.
"No! Whether she's beautiful or not, would you be proud to dress Eva Braun? So wrong," the Instagram user wrote.

"Who is Eva Brown? Sorry...." Gabbana replied.
With his celebratory post, Gabbana became one the first prominent designers to thank Melania for wearing his designs, following months of debate within the fashion world over dressing the future first lady. While some prominent names have come out against (Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Sophie Theallet) or in favor of (Thom Browne, Carolina Herrera) Melania wearing their designs, many have stayed neutral.

"Any first lady should be respected like any first lady," Diane Von Furstenberg told USA Today about dressing Melania. "If you are first lady, you represent America."

The Trump winter retreat in Florida was the perfect occasion for Melania to rock a weather-appropriate sandal shoe style. The silhouette is a departure from her beloved Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps that she’s worn on several occasions while supporting Donald’s presidential campaign bid before the Republican real estate mogul won the election.
Melania’s LBD was accessorized with a diamond bracelet and sparkling bejeweled embellishments around the dress straps.
