“Project Runway” whiz Tim Gunn says Anna Wintour is still angry at him for comments he made about her years ago.The bad blood runs so deep, when Gunn sees Wintour, “I don’t look her in the eyes, because I will be turned into stone,” he told us.
The brouhaha began in 2010, when Gunn wrote in his book, “Gunn’s Golden Rules,” that he saw the Vogue editor being carried by minions at a Metropolitan Pavilion fashion show to avoid having to ride in a public elevator. “We ran over to [an] elevator bay to see if Anna would deign to get on,” Gunn wrote. “Then…what did we see but Anna being carried down the stairs…bodyguards had made a fireman’s lock and were racing her from landing to landing.” Then, “They carried her to the car.”
I thought: ‘I will never forget this.’” Gunn told us at an A+E
Networks bash on Thursday that when Wintour heard about his book, “All
hell broke loose…Her office was insisting I print a retraction.”
But, “In the middle of all this, Peter Arnold, then executive
director of the CFDA, came to my office and asked, ‘What’s wrong with
you? You look awful.’
I told him the story and he said, ‘I was there, I saw it.’” They
bravely called Wintour’s office to say there were more witnesses. “Also,
I wasn’t maligning her character,” Gunn pointed out. “I was simply
making a statement of facts. It didn’t say anything about her as a
person…the cause célèbre here was speed.”
