Michael Kors Copies Everyone!
Italian designer Roberto Cavalli has been known for speaking his mind in the past. He somewhat famously called American fashion “terrible.” He dissed Karl Lagerfeld’s personal style. Then he said the only real designers as of late are Alexander McQueen and Gianni Versace,
and the list of potential insults goes on.
Most recently, Cavalli is
taking on accessible fashion magnate, Michael Kors. He told Style.com:
“He’s one of the biggest copy designers in the world. I just want to
tell him to stop copying me! Stop! All the time I write those comments
on Instagram. He copies everybody!” Cavalli goes on to explain the
launch of his diffusion, saying: “Before I [launched] Just Cavalli, I
started to see how many people around me were copying me. There was
Cavalli style all over, and I said, ‘Why am I giving so many
opportunities to other people? Maybe I should just start to copy
myself.’ So I started Just Cavalli to copy myself.”
As for the Michael Kors copying, I can’t say I disagree. One of his most
popular dresses, the one Karlie Kloss wore to close his Spring/Summer
2013 show, was a pretty blatant copy of one of New York-based brand,
Cushnie et Ochs’ designs. Michael Kors watches are another manifestation
of what looks to be Kors’ copying. Some of his best selling
wristwatches are dead-ringers (and potential patent infringements) of
Swiss watch brand, Rolex. Is Roberto Cavalli right?
