Helena Christensen is considered one
of the original supermodels of the 1990’s.
Helena was born December 25,
1968 in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1986, she was selected as Miss Denmark,
and at the age of 18 she decided to pursue her modeling career and moved
to Paris. While in Paris, Helena’s career took off immediately, after a
photo shoot with Elle magazine. She then landed a cover shoot taken by
photographer Peter Lindbergh for Vogue.
Many leaders of the fashion world have given Helena many complements for her unique and captivating looks. Karl Lagerferld described her as possessing “a figure type that's very rare.
Nobody has better legs.” And
Gianni Versace once said she has "the most beautiful body in the
world."
Helena did catwalk modeling for
many fashion houses throughout her career including Azzedine Alaia,
Fendi, Alberta Ferretti, Karl Lagerfeld, Valentino, Chanel, Christian
Dior, Giorgio Armani, Versace, Givenchy and Vivienne Westwood.
Helena is best known for working with
Victoria’s Secret as a signature Angel and worked alongside Yasmeen
Ghauri, Tyra Banks, Stephanie Seymour and Daniela Pestova.
Besides
having a successful modeling career, Helena also worked in various film
and television projects, including the 1992 independent film Inferno,
and Chris Isaac's hit music video Wicked Game. In 1994 she followed up
with a cameo role in Robert Altman’s Pret-a-Porter.
Helena is also a well known
photographer - her work has appeared in publications such as Elle, Marie
Claire, and Nylon. In June 2006, she launched her clothing line
Christensen & Sigersen, alongside her life-long friend Leif
Sigersen. Helena has a son named Mingus Luchien Reedus born October 22,
1999.
